I’m not sure why I’ve never made these folded paper hearts before. They are so quick and easy to make!
I wanted to make an origami heart, so I searched on Pinterest. I really wanted something that was simple enough that even young children could manage. I found these hearts which looked very doable.
Let me tell you how it’s done!

Supplies Needed to Make Folded Paper Hearts:
~ Paper (I used thin printer paper – for this project, thinner is better)
~ Ruler
~ Pencil
~ Scissors
~ Glue stick
~ Tempera paint or liquid watercolor (optional, see below)
How to Make Folded Paper Hearts:
Step 1: Take an 8.5″ X 11″ piece of printer paper in your preferred color. Measure and cut off a third of the length.
Step 2: Fold the paper in half lengthwise.
Step 3: Fold the paper again, this time widthwise.
Step 4: Fold paper over and round the edges with scissors.
Step 5: Open the paper back up, and fold in the bottom and top to the middle, so now you have four creases lengthwise.
Step 6: Start accordion folding from the bottom, creating three folds per section.
Step 7: When all the way folded, run glue along one edge.
Step 8: Fold together to seal edges.
Step 9: Voila! You have a heart. You can now make more, punch holes in them and create a garland. Or make a necklace from one. Or simply fold it back up, stick in in an envelope, and send it to someone you love.

How to Make Painted and Folded Paper Hearts:
Step 1: Paint some paper (or use table papers, or old art as long as the paper isn’t too thick). I first tried the scrape painting technique on newsprint.
Step 2: Then I did some splatter painting, also on newsprint.
Step 3: After the paper dried, I cut them up into 6″ X 11″ pieces.
Step 4: Fold the same way as tutorial above.

Next I want to try making a really big heart out of watercolor paper and then painting it like these pinwheels!
Definitely let me know if you try this!
