Week 7 of our Art and Play Activity Guide is all about Provocations!
Provocations week will be a little bit different than our other weeks. Instead of asking children to act on an idea that we present, we will be asking them to take the lead and show us what they can do!
This week will not only stretch and strengthen your child’s mastery of materials and creative confidence, it will also provide a framework for thinking about artmaking with children a little differently. We’ll be encouraging problem solving and critical thinking skills, decision making, and iteration.
Art and Play Activity Guide: Provocations
What are provocations? Simply put, a provocation invites children to think and explore the endless possibilities of a material or an idea. A provocation isn’t just an art project, it’s a chance to really let children lead the way.
With a little structure and guidance, we’ll show you how to allow your children to show you just how capable they are, and just how incredibly inventive their ideas can be.
Another wonderful thing about provocations is that they are accessible to all ages!

Round shapes and paint for printing on Math Tuesday…
Paper shapes and tools for mark-making and drawing on Literacy Wednesday…

And recycled materials for constructing on Process Art Friday!
