Today I want to share with you a very simple and insanely cool way to make these beautiful washer necklaces with your kids. Can you believe these are just ordinary washers from the hardware store? I think they look like something you would find at Anthropologie! My daughter made these all by herself (age 10), and then sold them at a young entrepreneurs fair in our town. You can embellish them with beads or keep them simple with suede rope. I personally love the suede rope and wear mine out to dinner.

Supplies for washer necklaces:
~ Washers from the hardware store (I picked out 1.5″ and 2″ in the heavier stainless)
~ Baker’s twine or suede rope (hold it around your neck first to cut the right length)
~ Beads: small glass seed beads, wooden beads, or any beads
~ Sewing needles (this assorted pack works well)
How to make washer necklaces:
1. First, paint the washers with the nail polish. Make sure to not use old nail polish (we made that mistake). Go heavy on the polish, almost like you are pouring it on, but don’t do that. But if you go heavy, then you can spread it around with the brush. We only painted the top, making sure it didn’t run over the sides.
2. When the washers have dried, choose which string you want to tie around them. We made a loop and then went back through the loop to create a sleek knot.
3. If you decide to bead, this is your next step. You can really get creative here and do anything! We actually ended up using a thinner needle for the seed beads. They are really tiny.
4. When finished beading, hang it around your neck and figure out what length you like before tying a good knot.
How gorgeous did these turn out? Such a fun, crafty project to do with older kids. And a really nice gift idea, too.
