Sometimes I have a picture in my mind’s eye of something I want to make. I don’t know what triggered this idea (although I’m sure it was my hours of trolling through Pinterest), but I really wanted to make some felt garland. I knew this would mean dusting off my old sewing machine, but I didn’t care. I wanted it that badly. I’m so happy with the way the garland turned out! Isn’t it darling? I will admit it’s tedious work cutting all of those shapes, but I kinda don’t mind busy work like that. I’m not normal, though.

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own felt garland:
Felt sheets (I got mine on Etsy, but you can also buy felt on Amazon)
Circle stencil (I cut three sizes: 1 3/4″, 1 1/4″, 1″))
Good sharp fabric scissors
Sewing machine with white thread
How to:
1. Circles: Trace about 10-15 circle shapes of varying size per color, then cut them by hand. (I did actually buy a circle cutter, but the smallest shape was 1 3/4″ in diameter. I used that size as the “biggest” in my garland.)
2. Triangles: Make a quick template to trace the triangles, then cut along the top which creates a strip of interlocking triangles. It’s quick and easy!
3. Lay out your shapes in the order and length that you want them. (My garland is about 10′ long.)
4. Sew the shapes together in one long row so that there is no space in between each shape.
The hard part is cutting the shapes, after that it’s quite easy! I can’t wait to use my garland. I do believe you’ll be seeing it lots in my future posts 🙂

UPDATE: I wanted to add a photo from Christmas. We used the garland on the tree, and it looked so pretty!
