Washi Tape Leaves

decorate leaves with washit tape ~ a simple craft for all ages

Recently, we went on vacation to a beautiful Caribbean island for a family reunion. We ate, slept, hiked, visited beaches, laughed with family, took a million photos, made some t-shirts, and just had the time of our lives. I brought with me a bag of washi tape (as most people do) because I thought it would be the simplest crafting supply to bring with the most possibilities. I was right! We made washi tape bracelets, crowns, fans, and these beautiful leaves.

I made this collage more for myself because I MISS MY ISLAND! One more chance to stare at these photos is never a bad idea. (Via my Instagram.)

There is a very short supply list: Just washi tape, and leaves. Since you can’t bring scissors on the plane, you have to hope that there are scissors you can borrow where you are staying. Or alternatively, the kids can just rip the tapes, which is what some them did anyway.

Here are some good sources for washi:

Amazon sells washi tape and I get mine there quite often because I have Amazon Prime which means free shipping! I purchase this pack of neon tapes, and these striped and patterned tapes.

Etsy sells tons of washi tape, too. You can just search “washi tape” and you’ll get hundreds of different sellers. I use Pretty Tape quite often, and also My DIY Lab and Divine Supply.

Although I made some leaves, too, the best ones were made by the kids. Mine were boring in comparison! This one above was made by my 13-yr old nephew.  It was truly a craft for all ages.

And here are some other posts that would work well as travel art:

Leaf Drawings with Chalk Markers

Pom-pom Hair Ties (or garland)

Pony Bead Bracelets (this post shows napkin rings but they could easily be bracelets)

Weaving with Kids (make looms beforehand)

Henna Hands

Wire Jewelry (this post shows them as ornaments)

Art Kit Favor Bag (perfect art travel bag)

Wooden Bead Necklace (skip the cardboard cut-out and just bring beads, string and watercolors)

It’s always a good idea to bring some art supplies with you on a trip because there will inevitably be downtime, and being in a different environment somehow makes art projects much more exciting!
