Oliver Jeffers // Picture Book Maker

we love Oliver Jeffers!

As if there weren’t enough reasons to love Oliver Jeffers (author + illustrator of some of our favorite books of all time), I have just discovered THIS. It’s a fascinating 3 minute movie on how he comes up with his book ideas. This is one creative (and cute) Irishman. In college, I spent a semester trying to write children’s books (not as easy at it seems). This video has inspired me to go and dig them out!

This Spring, May 4th to be exact, Oliver Jeffers will be at the MoMa Design Store at 81 Spring Street in NYC. I am definitely bringing my kids to meet Oliver. In fact, after watching Oliver’s video, my son asked for a journal so he could start writing down his thoughts and ideas. Melt my heart!

This post will be filed under Dream Jobs. I hope to find more dream jobs to share with you in the future!

I love Oliver Jeffers (and not just because he is Irish too).
You might like Sky Rabbit by Aileen McGovern. Another beautiful, picture book for children by an Irish writer. http://www.aileenmcgovern.com/shop/shop_sky_book.asp

My girls wrote to Aileen to tell her how much they loved the story and that they were sending the book to two new babies in New Zealand (where my two were born before we moved back to Ireland) and Aileen replied with a lovely hand drawn card of Sky Rabbit with some lovely encouraging words to my little story tellers.
    Worth checking her out too.
(PS – now that I have seen Oliver Jeffers I have an actual crush on him rather than just thinking he was awesome!)

I’d love to read Sky Rabbit, it looks very sweet. Thank you for the recommendation! And how wonderful and encouraging for an author to write back, I love hearing that.
