Today my good friend and fellow creative mama, Megan Schiller from The Art Pantry, is here to tell you about her new Design Camp! She is running a five-week, online course to help you set up a home art space for your kids that is organized, inviting, and that most of all, builds creative confidence.

Without further ado, here is Megan…

We want our kids to live creative lives.

We want our kids to be confident with a paintbrush in their hand or know how to use scissors or a hot glue gun safely. As busy parents, it can be challenging to feel like we have to come up with an art project or bring out art materials in order for our kids to get these creative experiences.

Imagine having all of your toys stored away in a drawer and having to dig them out every time your child wants to play. We don’t do this because we know that kids learn through play. We know that it’s important to have toys available to play with whenever they feel inspired.

What if we treat art supplies the same way? What if we display creative tools and materials out in the open and make them easily accessible for our kids whenever they feel inspired?

This is what we do at our house, and I know Bar follows this same approach at her house too – not just because she teaches art classes, she has done this ever since her kids were toddlers!

When we make space in our homes for open access to art supplies, we are telling our kids that they are creative and capable. We are saying, “Here’s a workshop where you can do art, have experiments, make mistakes, build stuff, learn new skills, play, and have fun.”

When we have an art space in our home, we are offering our kids the gift of creative confidence, creative thinking, and creative independence that will last throughout their lives.

I want this for all kids.

As a former preschool teacher and art teacher, I realized years ago how beneficial it is for children to have access to creative tools and materials. These days, I am so lucky that I get to help families set up art spaces in their homes! I am deeply committed to helping children gain creative confidence and to make creative exploration a part of their daily lives.
