Pinterest had an idea that I wanted to copy. There was a photo of a little girl looking all adorable up on her bed, and beneath her on the floor were big, colorful balloons. The post said, “On their birthday, cover the floor with balloons while they sleep.”
Brilliant idea!
I went to Party City. Their single balloons were 99 cents each. Too expensive. I decided to purchase a bag of 50 balloons for $4.99. However, while walking the endless aisles of Party City, I somehow turned into my mother. I neglected to read any of the words on the bag. Words like SMALL (read teeny tiny) and 25 BALLOONS (not 50…had I just imagined that?).
That night, the night before my son turned six, I brought the bag of balloons out from the car. I was confused, why was it so little? Darnit! I messed up. The balloons were so small, in fact, that I couldn’t even blow them up. I recruited my daughters and a neighbor, who all had stronger cheeks than I had.
All 25 of them fit in my arms. Oh, well.
I scattered them by his bed as he slept. They really did look pitiful, but guess what? Six year olds don’t care! He loves his balloons and it was a perfect start to his birthday weekend.
